Did You Know?

These happy little fellows hail all the way from Scotland, where they used to hunt foxes, vermin and otters.

The exact history of the breed is widely debated. Some believe King James I requested a ‘little white earth dog’ and that was what started an effort to produce a breed with a white coat.

Others think a dog belonging to a Colonel Malcolm Poltalloch was responsible. When Colonel Poltalloch’s beloved dark-coated terrier died, he reportedly swore he would only own white dogs from that point on.

That's quite a sad story. But a much happier one is that the breed was finally recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1908 and have been delighting owners since.
