Did You Know?

The smart and alert Japanese Chin is also known as the Japanese Spaniel. This little dog was a big deal with royalty, and was bred and refined in Japan for the aristocracy. It said they were given as gifts by the rulers of Korea and that, for centuries, they could only be owned by nobility itself. They are known for their distinct crossed eyes, one of many quirks that add to their appeal. Portuguese sailors eventually brought them to Europe in the 1700s. They were introduced to Britain in 1853 by Commodore Perry, who reportedly gave a pair of them to Queen Victoria as a gift. The Commodore is also credited with introducing this loving and loyal breed to America. He certainly gets a medal for that in our books.
