Quiet, playful, independent, and intelligent dogs.
Enjoy participating in dog sports such as lure coursing, racing, tracking, agility, and competitive obedience; also can be good jogging companions.
Have a sensitive nature and respond best to motivational tools such as treats or favorite toys in a reward-based approach to training.
May be aloof around strangers and may require careful socialization to prevent or reduce fear-based defensive behaviors.

Did You Know?

Not much is known about the true origins of these intelligent, sensitive souls. Their history goes back thousands of years, but the jury’s still out on whether they hail from Ancient Egypt or the steppes of Asia.

Whatever the truth, they were very popular in Afghanistan. Exporting them was actually illegal up until 1907, when they eventually found their way into England and America – and countless hearts.

It’s hard to believe Afghan Hounds once used to hunt snow leopards, panthers and wolves. Especially nowadays, when all these lovable, family dogs seem interested in pursuing are our affections.
