DNA Samples From Pure and Mixed Breed Dogs
The Wisdom Panel™ MX Mixed Breed Analysis identifies the breed heritage of mixed breed dogs based on breed-specific DNA signatures. To enable detailed investigation of these signatures, Waltham researchers collected many samples from common breeds in the United States (US) and the United Kingdom (UK).
Samples were donated from owners and breeders at local dog shows and municipal veterinary clinics across the US (sample-collection sites)
- More than 13,000 DNA samples were collected
- The majority were collected from purebred dogs, with a minority from mixed breed dogs
With the help of the Kennel Club (UK), over 7000 samples from dogs of purebred origin were collected in the UK.
Reference DNA was collected from both pure and mixed breed dogs
